We have made it to Disneyland Paris, but we left off with our exploits in Rome. The day after our Vatican focus, we went to the Vatican in the morning to do some souvenir shopping. We just wandered in and out of stores. We didn’t really buy too much, just a few gifts. We also ventured around Rome using public transportation on our own.
We went to the Pantheon, once the home of Gods, now a Catholic church. We walked to the Pantheon with Mr. Shiny leading the way. Again, we seem to walk a bit farther than needed. Jeff made sandwiches so we ate outside the Pantheon. We actually came across a cool little piazza that was having an art fair. Jane took pictures in the Pantheon. Then we had to make our way to the Borghese estate. We were meeting Liz at the Galleria Borghese and then having dinner with her. We had some time before then so we decided to make a trip to the Rome Zoo. We hopped on the public bus and actually got to where we were going. I wonder if other people stop at all these zoos? We go to zoos because of our animal loving child. Zoos are kind of odd tourist places. They are more or less for local people but they get their share of visitors. I worked at one of the Chicago ones while I was in high school and college. Most people visiting a zoo probably live within 100 miles of the zoo, so we were really a fish out of water (couldn’t resist). We aren’t at the zoo for more than 20 minutes when Jane turns and falls. Security and first aid are non existent at the Rome Zoo. Mr Shiny eventually got some disinfectant. A call to Liz got us bandages and more disinfectant. Jane’s knees were totally skinned. After she calmed down we looked at more of the zoo and head to the Galleria Borghesia. Again, Liz shared her talents with us. We saw a lot of nice sculptures.
We had Italian pizza for dinner, after we walked several miles (or so it seemed). We took another bus to the Castle. Then walked back to our room. While we were walking we stopped to see the film crews of Angels and Demons. Jasmine and Mr. Shiny stuck around to see if anything was going to happen. It’s filming, so of course nothing happened. We had to be up early to go to Florence in the morning. We’ll save Florence for another trip.
